Quilting 101-Quick Triangle-Squares

Use this quick method of making triangle-squares like those in the Scrappy Tree wall hanging. If your project does not call for this method you will need to add 3/8" to the over all size of the cut squares. For example if you need a 2" square then cut them at 2 3/8" instead.

Cut two squares of contrasting fabric the same size.

Draw a line from corner to corner.

If your not sure about your skills at eyeballing a 1/4" seam, draw a line 1/4" on ether side of the above drawn line.

Sew 1/4" away from the center line or on the 2nd and 3rd line you drew, I like to use an anchor piece of fabric to start off...

and then put one at the end. It helps so the machine stays threaded and it seems to save the tips of your triangles.

Cut on the center line.

Finger press toward the dark fabric, unless otherwise directed. Press, do not ever iron a triangle block, It will distort it's square shape.

Trim points. All done, I knew you could do it!

Cool, I think I knew it would distort them to iron triangles. But thanks it never hurts to get a reminder sometimes.

That is a great short cut! I made most of this little quilt last night, until my cat fell asleep on it. All I need to do is finish the back and add a few details. They are so quick and cute! Thanks!
